February 5, 2020

(Columbia, SC, February 5, 2020) – The Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce has named Central Midlands Transit Authority/The COMET, Small Business of the Year. This decision was announced at the recent Cayce West Columbia Chamber awards dinner held at the Doubletree Hotel.

“We are honored to receive this award. At The COMET, we are continually looking for ways to improve and provide better services for our riders. This nomination is a reminder of how far we’ve come, and what we’re aiming to be,” Executive Director/CEO John Andoh said.

Since 2019, Andoh has implemented practices to enhance transit in the Midlands. These include, expanding routes in West Columbia and Cayce to include service to Amazon and Nephron Pharmaceuticals and new services to Batesburg-Leesville.

"The COMET has done some amazing things for West Columbia and Cayce under John’s leadership. We are so excited about the expansion of transit services for our residents and business community in Lexington County,” added Cayce-West Columbia President/CEO Richard Skipper.

In addition, The COMET has added a twist on getting around downtown by bringing in trolley vehicles for use on Soda Cap Connector. To promote literacy, they partnered with Richland Library to have Books on the Bus, Free Little Library and Short Story Reader for riders.

With this award, The COMET continues to focus on building a convenient, safe and reliable form of transportation for residents of the Midlands.
