COMET TO CONNECT WITH LOWER RICHLAND FOR TRANSIT SERVICE FEEDBACK (rescheduled for June 20, 2022)

(May 20, 2022) Columbia, SC – The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (The COMET) is seeking feedback from the Lower Richland Community regarding its transportation services.
The townhall styled meeting will be held 6 p.m. on Monday, May 23 at the Adult Activity Center on 8620 Garner’s Ferry Road in Hopkins, SC. Through a partnership with DESA, Inc., The COMET will survey area residents on recommended improvements and satisfaction with service delivery.
Presently, Lower Richland-which includes Gadsden, Hopkins, and Eastover- is served by Routes 44X, 45, 47, & 61 and include express service to Sumter and Reflex routes providing service on-demand. The COMET wants to inform the public of its present services and amenities and gauge the desire for expanded offerings.
“We want to hear from the communities that we serve to ensure that we are providing access to jobs, healthcare, education and all essential travel,” said Derrick Huggins, Interim CEO of The COMET. “The Lower Richland event is the first of future public meetings we plan to have in order to obtain feedback which help us to be the best transportation provider possible.”
The Lower Richland event is being held in partnership with the following elected officials: Sen. Darrell Jackson; Rep. Wendy Brawley; Rep. Jermaine Johnson; Councilwoman Chakisse Newton; Councilwoman Cheryl D. English; Mayor Phillip Gunter, Eastover; Commissioner Cheryl Harris; Commissioner Tamika Myers; Commissioner Robert Lominack; and Commissioner Angela Clyburn.
