COMET’S LEROY DESCHAMPS RECEIVES PRESIDENT’S AWARD AT ANNUAL TASC CONFERENCE

(March 10, 2022) Columbia, SC – The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority (The COMET) is proud to announce that LeRoy DesChamps, the organization’s COO and Director of Administration was selected for the 2022 TASC Awards of Excellence – President’s Award for Dedication to Community Award at the association’s annual conference in Hilton Head.

The prestigious award from the Transportation Association of South Carolina (TASC) honors individuals in the industry who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the expansion and enhancement of public and human service transportation. The award also honors those representing the interest, policies, requirements, and purposes of public transit and human service operators throughout the state. DesChamps oversees and directs all administrative and operational programs at The COMET, including contracted transit operations, customer service, human resources, general office administration, planning, development, and scheduling. He served briefly as Interim Executive Director in 2021, leading one of the state’s largest public transportation organizations providing stability and forward movement for The COMET during a time of uncertainty.

“I am both pleasantly surprised and grateful to be recognized with this great industry honor,” said DesChamps. “The work we do is a reward within itself and to be recognized by my peers for stepping forward and doing what is right in the face of multiple challenges is truly humbling.”

DesChamps brings more than 25 years of leadership and entrepreneurial business acumen to the transportation industry. Among his many accomplishments, he completed the Westgate

Center for Leadership and Management Development Transit Paratransit Management program, a top-rated Transit Management and Paratransit Certificate Series. DesChamps is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, College of Business and Retail Management.
