The COMET has mobility programs that can take you anywhere you want to go, within the Columbia Urbanized Area, as long as you start your ride outside The COMET service area, and you register for these programs as a senior (age 65 years old or older) or have a disability. Details on how mobility can work for you is below:

Pick Up Program (PUP)

How does it work?

The COMET Pick Up Program gives you a debit card to pay up to $50 a month in taxi, Lyft or Uber rides.

This program is for people with disabilities and seniors 65 or older and meet the following:

After you complete the training and application, you are ready to start. The training can be done online, over the phone, and in person.

Volunteer Transportation Reimbursement Program (V-TRIP)

How does it work?

V-TRIP lets riders get money back to pay the people in their life who drive them. If you have a friend from church, work, school, or the neighborhood, who gives you a ride this program may help cover gas. You can travel up to 100 miles a month and a list of trips made must be submitted monthly in order to be reimbursed.

Is it for me?

This program is for people with disabilities and seniors 65 or older and meet the following:

  • Live outside The COMET service area.
  • Live inside Richland or Lexington County.
  • Live inside the Columbia Urbanized Area.
  • Download the Flyer.

You can can call 803-834-2382 (TTY/TDD: 711), email mobility@thecometsc.gov or visit The COMET, 3613 Lucius Road, Columbia, SC 29201 and ask to speak with Brittany Terry, Mobility Management Specialist.

An application and determination of eligibility will be required to use these programs. If you already have a DART ADA ID Card or a The COMET Half Fare ID Card, you will be automatically eligible for this program upon submission of a program application for V-TRIP or PUP.

  • The Blue dotted area is The COMET Service Area.  Trips can not originate and end in this area.
  • The Beige Shaded area is the Columbia Urbanized Area. Trips must start or end in this zone.

DETAILED MAP DESCRIPTION:

Below is a map of Columbia. The red lines show where The COMET routes go. The blue shaded area is The COMET’s 3/4 of a mile DART service area. The beige shading is the Columbia Urbanized Area. The thick line circling everything else is the counties’ boundaries. Fully included areas in the Columbia Urbanized Area are Arcadia Lakes, Cayce, Chapin, Forest Acres, Gaston, Irmo, the town of Lexington, Pine Ridge, South Congaree, Springdale, Summit, and West Columbia. Partially included areas are Columbia, Gilbert, Pelion, and Swansea. To use The COMET PUP and V-TRIP programs you must live outside The COMET service area, but in the Columbia Urbanized area.
