THE COMET EXPANDS SERVICES IN BATESBURG-LEESVILLE & LEXINGTON BEGINNING JANUARY 23, 2020

January 16, 2020

(January 16, 2020) Columbia, SC – As part of the service enhancements approved by the Board of Directors in October 2018, The COMET is launching a pilot rural route which would connect the West Columbia SuperStop at Williams Drive at Charleston Highway and Batesburg-Leesville via Lexington. The service will operate, three trips to West Columbia and two trips to Batesburg-Leesville every Thursday.  The fare for the new service is $2.00 one way and $4.00 for a day pass. Connections to other The COMET routes for travel into Columbia via Route 91 are available at the West Columbia SuperStop.

For those that would need door-to-door assistance, the route will also deviate up to one mile off-route and passengers can “flag” the bus in between bus stops in Batesburg-Leesville only for an additional $2.00 charge.

“The goal of this new rural route is to connect eastern Lexington County with services and opportunities in western Lexington County and Richland County,” said John Andoh, Executive Director and CEO of The COMET. He added, “Should the pilot be successful, an opportunity may exist for commuter-based transportation, five days a week.”

This service is funded with rural Federal funds provided by the Federal Transit Administration through the South Carolina Department of Transportation and local funds from Lexington County.
